Since 2010, the Malibu High School Zanmi Club in partnership with Project Medishare, has been working to empower women living in Haiti's poorest region-the Central Plateau. Our club members collect recycled t-shirts and other materials and assemble handcraft kits needed for the ladies to make handcrafts.

Who We Are ...

Project Medishare helps us organize our women's workshops in Haiti, by providing us transportation, facilities and translators. Our project manager is Rezanord Mercon (on far left ). He meets every month with the ladies in our project to oversee them and purchase their handcrafts.

What We Do...

The women are paid for attending each workshop by Project Medishare with Zanmi funds. At the end of each workshop we also purchase the ladies' handcrafts, again with Zanmi funds.

We provide workshops to teach women how to make various handcrafts using repurposed materials. We provide the women all needed materials and with the help of our Project Medishare translator we teach the women craft making techniques so they can create one of a kind handcrafts.

Project Medishare is helping transport the women's handcrafts from Haiti to Miami. And during these chaotic times this is not an easy feat. When they are arrive in California the Zanmi Club begins working on readying them to sell.

100% of all sales proceeds go directly into Project Medishare's Zanmi fund and used to continue purchasing the women's handcrafts and help improve their lives and the lives of their families. The ladies' crafts can be purchased on line at: HaitiHandcrafts.Etsy.com

Once a month Rezanord meets with the ladies once a month at the Project Medishare center. The ladies bring their handcrafts for him to purchase. He encourages the women and tries to help them find ways to improve the quality of their work. All the videos and biographies on this website have been made by Rezanord. He continues to do so much to help the ladies in our Zanmi Project thrive.

In 2018 Rezanord began working with us as our translator. He did such an outstanding job and worked so well with the women that we knew immediately he would be the perfect person to manage our Zanmi Woment's Project in Haiti.

We Have Provided Solar Lanterns

The ladies in our project live in a very rural area and they have no running water or electricity. The only light they have at night is moonlight. These solar lanterns not only provide them light at night, but each also includes an emergency radio and a USB charger.

Our Malibu High School Zanmi club purchased these much needed solar lanterns to help improve the quality of life for all the ladies in our Zanmi Project.

We Helped Replace This Old Ambulance:

In 2021 thisProject Medishare ambulance was in desperate need of replacement. We were grateful for the opportunity to help r purchase a new ambulance.

Our Zanmi Project donated $20,000 to help provide critically needed emergency transportation for Haiti's Central Plateau communities.

We Have Provided Safe Stoves

Charcoal is commonly used in Haiti for cooking. Unfortunately, charcoal presents many serious problems; it is expensive, harmful to the environment and most importantly poses serious hazards for the women who use it for cooking.

Our Malibu High Zanmi Club purchased fuel efficient and safe gas stoves for each women in our project.

Our Zanmi Club will soon be offering the women's handcrafts for sale at 'Third Space' - a new store opening summer 2023 in Malibu.

Our Zanmi handcrafts can also be purchased online at: HaitiHandcrafts.Etsy.com

We Help Market and Sell Haitian Women's Handcrafts

Most importantly, the Zanmi Club students market and sell the Zanmi ladies' handcrafts. 100% of all their sales proceeds are donated to the Project Medishare Zanmi Project to pay the ladies for their work. With our craft sales we have created a source of income that has been life changing for the women in our project.
